Hawaii is known for having some of the world’s most beautiful sunsets. There is something special about watching the sun go down. It can be a romantic moment with your partner, the perfect way to end the day alongside your family and friends, or a moment of peace to yourself. Maui is a beautiful and diverse island. At the beginning of the day you could be on top of a volcano or hiking in the rainforest, and then a few hours later you could be swimming in the ocean! We wanted to share our top 5 amazing places to watch the sunset in Maui Hawaii.

1. Makena Cove Secret Beach

Makena Cove Secret Beach, also known as Paako Cove, is located in Wailea, Maui. This is a small and intimate place to watch the sun set amongst the lava rocks and ocean. There are also some beautiful coconut trees that give you the perfect tropical feel. A great place to take some portraits!

2. Haleakala Crater

Haleakala is a very popular sunrise destination. However, did you ever think about going there for sunset?! The National Park requires a reservation to enter for the sunrise in order to limit the amount of people. This is why sunset is a great idea! From the 10,000 foot elevation, you feel as though you are on top of the world (or Mars)! We recommend arriving a couple of hours before sunset so that you can do a hike, walk around and explore a little bit. Make sure to bring some warm clothes because although you are on an island, the elevation is so high that it can get up to freezing temperatures!

3. Hookipa Beach Park

This beach is famous for windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing and wing foiling! Located close to Paia town, it is quite a slice of paradise. If you are not an avid water person or great swimmer, this is definitely not a good beach for swimming. However, it is a great spot to walk down the beach, explore the tide pools, view some sea turtles and watch the sunset. After watching the sunset, head on over to Mama’s Fish House for an unforgettable dinner! Paia town is an adorable little town to explore as well.

4. Honolua Bay

Honolua Bay is a world class surf spot (you may have heard us mention this wave once or twice in previous blogs). With or without waves, this is a beautiful place to see. If the waves are small or flat, it is safe to go out for a swim or snorkel. The drive out to ‘the bay’ never gets old. It is a perfect little tropical paradise where you won’t find any resorts or buildings (other than the occasional home tucked behind the foliage). There is a dirt road you can drive off, you can’t miss it! This makes for the perfect sunset spot from the cliff! Bring some food, wine, or whatever your heart desires and watch the sun go down in this breathtaking location.

5. Flemings Beach

Flemings Beach is located in Kapalua near the Ritz Carlton. Grab a shake, dinner or cocktail from the Burger Shack and watch the sunset here! Fleming’s is a long white sand beach great for walking. There is a labrynth on the lava rocks on the far left side of the beach. It is really interesting and worth checking out! The Kapalua Coastal Trail starts (or ends) here and goes all through the beaches of Kapalua. This trail is moderate intensity and absolutely beautiful!
